About Us

Foothills Tennis & Swimming Club provides tennis, swimming, and social activities to a membership of about 400 families.

Culture

In Palo Alto, CA, Foothills has always been run with a "do it yourself" philosophy and enthusiastic, helpful members. From the beginning, swim meets, tennis tournaments, dinners, parties, and work days have been directed and put into action by the members. Today, the same principles on which our Club was founded still apply, providing the family-oriented, action-minded atmosphere that makes us unique.

History

"Foothill Country Club," as it was originally called, began as an idea of Ted Carter’s in 1953 Palo Alto. In December of 1954, the Club became incorporated as a California non-profit corporation. Soon thereafter, the name was changed to the present title. The first Board of Governors consisted of Ted Carter (president), Dudley Zinke and Temp Peck (vice presidents), Gene Hammond (secretary), and Dick Abbott (treasurer). They ran a club with a "do it yourself" philosophy and enthusiastic, helpful members. Today, these same principles on which Foothills Tennis & Swimming Club was founded still apply, providing the family oriented, action minded atmosphere which makes our Club unique.

Facilities & Programs

Under Palo Alto's shady trees, our heated 25-yard pool is the center of many activities, including swimming lessons, teams, laps, and adult clinics. Across the main lawn are seven lighted tennis courts on which countless lessons, tournaments, clinics, and mixers take place. All tennis and swim lessons & clinics are open to the public. Members wanting a meal with their family can take advantage of our open-use kitchen, large barbecue grills, and summer Snack Bar. They can also round out their workout in the convenient fitness room. The Clubhouse is the perfect place to eat lunch, watch a game on TV, or relax with a good book on a comfortable couch. It's also ideal for parties, and is available for rent year-round. Foothills Club social events range from crab feeds to wine tasting to parents night out's to buffets with live music, and everything in between.
